Privacy
Greekom is a browser game. It keeps what it needs to run the game and to let you back into your account, and nothing else. There is no advertising here, no analytics, and nothing about you is sold or shared for money.
What is kept about you
Your account
- Your email address. It is what signs you in, and it is where a password-reset link goes. Nothing else is ever sent to it — there is no newsletter and no marketing mail.
- Your password, hashed. Stored with bcrypt, which is one-way: the original cannot be read back out, not by us and not by anybody who takes a copy of the database.
- Your commander name. This one is public — it appears in the rankings, on the map, in alliance rosters and in battle reports that other players read.
- If you sign in with Google: Google's own stable identifier for you and the address on that account. Greekom never sees your Google password.
Your game
Everything the game is made of: your city and where it stands on the map, your resources, buildings and army, the gods you hold, your alliance, the letters you send other players, chat messages, and battle reports. Much of this is visible to other players by design — that is what makes it a game with other people in it.
Timestamps
When your account was made and when you were last seen, plus the time you spend in the game, because Favour is earned by turning up and the server has to count it.
What is not kept
- No cookies. Greekom sets none at all. Your sign-in token is held in your browser's own local storage, which is not sent to anybody and is cleared when you sign out.
- No analytics, no trackers, no advertising. There is no Google Analytics, no pixel, no tag manager, no third-party script watching what you click.
- No profiling and no selling. Nothing about you is sold, rented, or handed to a data broker, and no automated decision is made about you outside the rules of the game.
- No payment details. Greekom takes no money, so it never sees a card.
Who else is involved
Three, and only these three:
- Google Fonts. The display faces are loaded from Google’s servers, so opening Greekom tells Google your IP address and roughly what browser you use. This happens whether or not you have a Google account.
- Google Sign-In, only if you press the Google button. Google tells us who you are; we tell Google nothing about your game.
- An email provider, which handles the one message Greekom sends: your password-reset link. It sees your address in order to deliver it.
The game itself runs on a single rented server. Ordinary web-server logs there record requests, including IP addresses, in the normal way; they are operational, kept only as long as they are useful for finding faults, and are not used to build any picture of you.
How long it is kept
Your account and its game data stay for as long as the account exists. Nothing is deleted automatically for inactivity.
A world is a whole game with an end to it. When a world is eventually closed, what was in it goes with it.
Deleting your account
Write to greekomgame@gmail.com from the address the account signs in with, and it will be deleted: the account, the city, the army, the letters, all of it. It is not reversible, and the name and map tile go back into the world for somebody else.
One thing survives a deletion on purpose: the administrative record that the deletion happened, so that actions taken on the game can be reviewed afterwards. It holds the name and internal id, not your address or anything you wrote.
Things other players hold — a letter you sent them, a battle report they were part of — stay with them, in the same way a sent letter is not yours to take back.
What you can ask for
A copy of everything kept about you, a correction to anything wrong, or deletion. Write to greekomgame@gmail.com from the address on the account and you will get an answer within 30 days. There is no charge.
If you are in the UK or the EU, the UK GDPR and GDPR give you these rights and the right to complain to your data protection authority. The lawful basis for the account data is the contract you enter by playing; for keeping the game secure and working, it is legitimate interest.
Children
Greekom is not aimed at children under 13, and accounts are not knowingly created for them. If you believe a child has made one, write to greekomgame@gmail.com and it will be removed.
Keeping it safe
Everything travels over HTTPS. Passwords are hashed with bcrypt. One account signs in on one device at a time, so a session left open somewhere else stops working the moment you sign in again. Administration is limited to a named list held on the server, is not something the game can grant, and asks for the password again before anything can be changed.
No system is beyond reach. If something does go wrong with your data, you will be told.
Changes
If what Greekom keeps ever changes, this page changes with it, and the date below moves.
